In a few weeks’ time the BTC will present the timeless classic of Fiddler on the Roof. You will be whisked away to 1905 Imperial Russia, to a time where life was as precarious as the perch of a Fiddler on a roof.

Set in the early 1900s, Jewish man Tevye is struggling with fast changing social movements that are threatening his tradition, and is forced to choose between holding onto the traditions of his culture and his daughter’s happiness.

One of the longest running shows in the history of Broadway and winning nine Tony Awards, Fiddler on the Roof was one of the first musicals to touch on issues such as poverty, persecution and holding onto one’s beliefs, often leaving audiences crying tears of joy, laughter and sadness.

“Denton Arthur has returned to Bendigo and will wow us again on stage playing the lead role of Tevye; he will make you cry and make you laugh.”
Bevan Madden, director of the Fiddler on the Roof for the Bendigo Theatre Company

From the Golden Age of musicals, Fiddler on the Roof features a number of well-known songs such as Matchmaker, If I Were a Rich Man and Sunrise, Sunset. The Bendigo Theatre Company will stage this beautifully written musical with a live orchestra.

A little birdy told me that the BTC’s performance will be absolutely unmissable… so pull on your winter woollies, get off the couch and come and support local theatre!
